Nora Smith is a freelance classical trumpeter in the South Bay area. A
native of Utah, she earned a Bachelor of Music from the San Francisco
Conservatory of Music in 2003. In 2006, she received a Master of Music at
the University of Denver's Lamont School of Music, and in 2007, she
completed the first year of a Doctorate of Arts Music degree at the
University of Northern Colorado. Nora held the doctoral trumpet
assistantship, teaching applied trumpet and was principal trumpet of the
UNC orchestra.
Nora was a winner of the Rocky Mountain Concerto Competition in October
of 2006, and performed the Sachse Concertino for Trumpet with the UNC
Wind Ensemble in April of 2007. She was soloist with the San Francisco
Conservatory Orchestra on Handel's Messiah in Davie's Symphony Hall in
2001 and 2002.

Additional music study includes attendance at the "FAME" Festival in Lawrenceville, NJ, where she studied
and played in master classes for Vincent Penzarella, Mondre Moffett, and Delfeayo Marsalis. In addition,
Nora participated in the Summer Brass Institute in Menlo Park with Bud Herseth during the summer of
2006. She was invited back as the director's assistant where she coordinated scheduling for all the
rehearsals and master classes, coached and conducted small chamber groups, taught a breathing gym class,
and managed concerts and master classes.
Nora has studied extensively and collaborated with trumpeters Dr. David Champouillon, Edward Gornik,
Mario Guarneri, Dave Burkhart, Al Hood, Dr. Rob Murray, Laurie McGaw, Jeff Biancalana, and Keith
Johnson.
A former member of the Utah Youth Symphony and the San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra, she
toured Europe with the SFSYO in 2001. She has also played with the Colorado Ballet in Denver, the Denver
Brass, Berkley Symphony Orchestra, Redwood Symphony, the Cantare Con Vivo Chorale Orchestra, San
Jose Wind Symphony, and Symphony Silicon Valley.
